ONAM 2015

Onam, the most traditional festival of Kerala was celebrated at our school on August 24th and 25th in a grand manner. Onam commemorates the Vamana avatar of Mahavishnu, who sent the Asura King Mahabali to the netherworld named Sutala. Mahabali is revered by the people of Kerala, and is believed to visit his people every year on Thiruvonam day.

As it was celebrated over two days, the students came to school dressed in coloured clothes on the 25th. They also brought various traditional Kerala food items which they shared with their friends.

On the 24th, the main competitions such as Vadamvali (Tug-of-war), Pulikali, Uriyadi, etc. were held. The Tug of war competition was conducted for girls and boys, as well as the teachers. The traditional Thiruvathira dance was performed by girls of 9th and 10th standards. There was also a pookkalam competition between students of all the four houses. The students participated very enthusiastically and sportingly in all the programmes, making it a grand success.
