Gurupoornima

Koyilandy, 22 July 2013

Amma Says”, A Guru is not one who is interested in others’ veneration, but one who has a reverential attitude towards all animate and inanimate things. One may say, “God and I are one,” but one can never say, “The Guru and I are one.” The Guru is even greater than God. This is because it is only through the Guru that our mind becomes purified, thus paving the way towards becoming one with God. Like the grace marks awarded to students who are not up to mark, the Guru’s grace transforms even an unfit disciple into a fit one. Only a disciple with a pure mind can attain liberation. It is the Guru who removes our ego. The ego can be removed only by proximity to the Guru.

The Guru and disciple are not separate. Like Shiva and Shakti, they are one. The disciple is half-disciple, half-Guru. When the Guru becomes a part of the disciple’s life, he or she can attain everything. The Guru poornima day or Vyasa Jayanthi was celebrated in a remarkable way. Guru paduka were worshiped .

For a child the parents are the first teachers.Under the guidance of Bri. Jayasankar the incharge of M A Math branch at koyilandy students washed the feet of their parents and seeked their blessing.  The program continued with his speech where he rightly emphasized that nothing can be give back to one’s mother who carries the child for 10 months and caress him without sleep and food  He also quoted a sloka by Sankaracharya in this occation.  It came to an end after Bhajans and the distribution of prasad.
